Electric Stress :
- If unit positive charge is placed at some point in the field, the force experienced by it is said to be the electric stress at that point.
- Electric stress is a vector quantity.
- Now, suppose unit negative (-Ve) charge when placed at the same point in the electric field and unit positive charge experience the force in an opposite direction.
- The electric stress of the insulating material is subjected to mathematically voltage and is equal to the electric field stress.
and therefore,
where, V is the voltage.
E is the electric stress.
